When the effects of COVID-19 are brought into the discussion, work is only second to health. However outrageous, Covid-19 has brought in the frame the idea of remote working, previously hindered by the doubts in work productivity. While working at home, appears to be a new mode of work, it’s feasibility in various sectors, remains questioned.

The elimination of geographical distances has stimulated the idea of working at home (WAH) in people, easing the hiring process. Online surveys have suggested that a tremendous amount of workers believe that remote working has not lowered their productivity whereas in some cases it has drastically risen. Statistics suggest that the pre-pandemic world had roughly 5% of employees working from home. Today this figure has made a drastic climb to 40%. IT-based companies and occupations with their infrastructure resting on online management are found adapting the remote culture rapidly.

On the contrary, replicating the office structure on computers is an arduous task, still undergoing the testing phase. WAH requires a stable internet setup, and an efficient backup and this ecological transition can be distracting to different classes of workers such as parents. Moreover, the remote working opportunity for organizations providing manual services, such as health and logistics is out ruled.

In sum, the world is seen to be evolving to remote working conditions in the near future.

Meanwhile, the customary question “how do you do?” is being reconstituted to “how do you work?”
